Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This endeavor will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, turning the urban landscape into a battlefield. To preserve order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents come in.
Work on the RPG has been underway for approximately three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping projected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the system reveals it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic style. Agents use abilities to assemble a handful of dice, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, players choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Combat Emphasize Positioning and Awareness
Battles stress positioning and environmental awareness, reflecting the video games. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This system seems built to favor coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Health Mechanic
The way injuries is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At critical condition, an agent is downed, but is not knocked out.
- They can still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available Quickstart Guide is promised soon. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
