Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank
Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "those individuals cannot be true Spurs fans" by boss Frank.
Tottenham let in two goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of the year.
But the main talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost the ball well outside his box.
He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.
But, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Spurs supporters booed him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering episodes really angered Frank.
"I heard some of our supporters apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane stated about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with each other moving ahead."
Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second-half performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."
'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He said following the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of my own, I accept accountability for that," he commented.
"The intent was to kick the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. This match is a bad loss and it's hard to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was not an simple score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the season – following Adams' 43.3 yard strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds after the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and get it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint club record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have occurred since Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a single story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost four consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's taken a prestigious job at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
